Background:
With the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP 2020) in the 2023-2024 academic year, NEP has envisioned that “top universities in the world will be facilitated to operate in India.” In line with the recommendations of the NEP 2020, The University Grants Commission (UGC) published the FHEI Regulations (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) on 8^th Nov 2023.

The Regulations provide a framework to allow the entry of higher-ranked foreign universities and educational institutions to set up its campuses in India, to offer certificate, diploma, degree and research programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels.

Objective:
NEP 2020 and FHEI 2023 regulations aims to provide an international dimension to higher education, enable Indian students to obtain foreign qualifications at affordable cost, and make India an attractive global study destination. It is therefore an opportune time for key stakeholders engaged in the Indian education ecosystem to have a discussion on the impact of and opportunities and challenges that NEP and FHEI bring for the higher education ecosystem in India. This session will shed light on that albeit with a French perspective.
