Courtesy meeting with Shri Sudeep Jain, Additional Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India

This high-level courtesy meeting aimed to introduce the Chamber’s activities and explore areas of synergy in support of the Ministry's priorities.

On 18th July 2025, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) organized a courtesy meeting with Shri Sudeep Jain, Additional Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India with an aim to introduce the Chamber’s activities and explore areas of synergy in support of the Ministry's priorities.

Ms. Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI, briefed Mr. Jain on the Chamber’s Energy & Utilities Committee, Advocacy initiatives, and recent industry interactions with various ministries over the past few months.

During the discussion, Mr. Sudeep Jain highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue around technology, innovation, and R&D, a priority area that closely aligns with the upcoming Indo-French Year of Innovation 2026.

Reference was made to the MoU on Renewable Energy Cooperation signed between India and France in January 2021, covering key sectors such as solar, wind, hydrogen, and biomass. As this MoU is due for renewal in January 2026, the meeting emphasized the opportunity to deepen bilateral engagement and expand collaboration in these strategic areas.

Key outcomes and proposed initiatives discussed included:

  • Organizing a dedicated Industry Roundtable Meeting at the MNRE in September 2025, bringing together French companies in India’s energy and utilities sector to explore opportunities and enhance understanding of India’s renewable energy landscape and ecosystem.

  • Planning a workshop and dialogue on Innovation during the Indo-French Year of Innovation 2026

  • Exploring the formation of a Joint Working Group and a study tour, based on the outcomes of the planned workshop

These initiatives are aimed at strengthening Indo-French partnerships, encouraging technological exchange and accelerating progress towards shared sustainable energy goals.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI, Ms. Aarushi Gautam, Sr. Manager, Committees & Events, IFCCI, Ms. Marie Khater, Economic Counsellor – Energy and Industry Division, Embassy of France in India and Mr. Dhananjay Kumar, Director, Corporate Affairs, Engie & Vice Chairperson, IFCCI Energy & Utilities Committee.
